Actually, they’ll be playing the rest of the season without the third-year running back, as the team officially placed him on injured reserve today, ending his season.

From Mike Reiss of the :The Patriots have placed running back Laurence Maroney on season-ending injured reserve, according to an NFL source. Maroney, now in his third season, missed Sunday’s game against the Chargers with a shoulder injury. He also missed the team’s Week 3 loss to the Dolphins with a shoulder injury.With Maroney done for the year, and Matt Cassel being hit-or-miss at the quarterback position, that means a lot more carries for Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk. Not that they weren’t getting a lot of carries anyway, seeing as how Maroney only played in three games this season.
