Rogers' error contributes to early exit

Rogers' error contributes to early exitByline: Ryan O'Halloran, David Elfin and Bob Cohn, THE WASHINGTON TIMES

In the first half of the season, Washington Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers played 95.2 percent of the defensive snaps.

He lasted four plays Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Rogers was beaten on a double move by Brandon Marshall that resulted in a 40-yard touchdown, giving the Broncos an early lead and Rogers an early exit.

Fred Smoot and Justin Tryon joined DeAngelo Hall as the Redskins' corners for the rest of their 27-17 victory.

I went through this last year once Shawn [Springs] got back from being injured - he started, and I never got an answer, Rogers said. This year, I do know - I gave up a double move to Philadelphia and gaveup this double move. They took me out, and that's it.

The Redskins' top-ranked pass defense was beaten by Marshall for touchdowns of 40 and 75 yards in the opening quarter before allowing only 99 yards the rest of the game.

Carlos is not out of it, coach Jim Zorn said. We made a change, and it was for the rest of the game, but that doesn't mean it's for therest of the way down the road.

Last year, Rogers got regular playing time until Springs replaced him in Week 15 at Cincinnati. Through eight games this year, Rogers had played in 480 of 504 snaps.

The way this season is going, defensively, you can't do too much wrong; offense isn't scoring any points, and it's a burden on us, he said. But it happens. If I play, I play. If I don't, I can't do anything about it.

Rogers' contract is up after the season, and if there is a new collective bargaining agreement he would be an unrestricted free agent. Without a CBA, he'll be a restricted free agent.

I'm not going to stand here and bash nobody or say nothing wrong to mess up myself - this is the last year of my contract, so we're going to keep it cool, he said. I'm not going to go off and say crazy stuff.

Injury report

The Redskins escaped the game without any serious injuries.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (left ankle), safety Reed Doughty (left elbow) and Hall (wrist) all suffered injuries but returned to the game. Haynesworth was shaken up a second time late in the fourth quarter but said he was fine.

I've blown two tires, said Haynesworth, who injured his right ankle earlier this year.

Denver quarterback Kyle Orton turned an ankle while scrambling late in the second quarter and did not return.

Yoder catches another touchdown

Todd Yoder, the Redskins' top blocking tight end, has caught just two passes this season. Both have gone for touchdowns, a 3-yard catchlast week against Atlanta and a 2-yard reception in Sunday's win over Denver.

The two scores in a season tie a career high for the nine-year veteran, who did it with Tampa Bay in 2003.

It feels good to be able to be part of it, especially this week with winning, Yoder said. It's great when you do something good, but it's so much better when it contributes to a victory.

Thomas' birthday gift

Held to one catch before that point, Devin Thomas wasn't the idealtarget with the Redskins facing third-and-3 at the Denver 32 and thescore tied 17-17 and 4:37 left.

But Thomas - who turned 23 on Sunday - caught a screen from Campbell and broke several tackles on a 27-yard gain that set up Ladell Betts' game-winning touchdown three plays later.

I just made a play, man, Thomas said. It felt good.
