Week 9 matchups NFL

Week 9 matchups NFL Chiefs AT Jaguars

When: Noon. Line: Jaguars by 61/2.

Synopsis: As if KC doesn't have enough problems, RB Larry Johnson is suspended for disparaging both gays and his coach. The Chiefs could use him, because Jacksonville's run defense is weak. The Jags were blown out in Tennessee last week but have won 2 in a row at home.

Jaguars 24, Chiefs 13.

Ravens AT Bengals

When: Noon. Line: Ravens by 3.

Synopsis: Baltimore broke its slump last week with a fierce defensive outing to hand Denver its first defeat and will try for a repeat vs. surprising Cincy. Bengals RB Cedric Benson faces the league's No. 8 run defense, so look for QB Carson Palmer to try to open the passing game up vs. a unit that has been suspect at times.

Ravens 26, Bengals 17.

Texans AT Colts

When: Noon. Line: Colts by 9.

Synopsis: Houston adjusts to life without TE Owen Daniels, who was leading all NFL tight ends in receiving before suffering a season-ending knee injury last week. He was a key target of Matt Schaub and will be missed much. That's a bad sign as the Texans figure to have to score a lot here to keep pace with the NFL's top-ranked offense.

Colts 26, Titans 17.

Redskins AT Falcons

When: Noon. Line: Falcons by 10.

Synopsis: Washington averages just 13.7 points, and don't look for much more than that in this one, as Atlanta gives up just 13.7 points at home and the Falcons will be eager to bounce back from a loss Monday in New Orleans. Atlanta RB Michael Turner looks as if he's ready to turn it on.

PICK OF THE WEEK (to win): Falcons 30, Redskins 13.

When: Noon. Line: Packers by 91/2.

Synopsis: Green Bay was whipped last week by Brett Favre but now gets a winless foe that is 23rd or worse in the major offensive stats and has a rookie QB, Josh Freeman, making his first NFL start. Pack QB Aaron Rodgers was banged up last week but should move the ball vs. this bunch.

Packers 26, BUCS 17.

Cardinals AT Bears

When: Noon. Line: Bears by 3.

Synopsis: Arizona tries to rebound after being upset at home by Carolina and looks for its 4th straight road victory, something the franchise hasn't done since '82. But it faces a team that's 3-0 at home. Arizona QB Kurt Warner won't throw 5 interceptions here, as he did last week, but might not have WR Anquan Boldin because of an ankle injury.

Bears 23, Cardinals 20.

Dolphins AT Patriots

When: Noon. Line: Patriots by 101/2.

Synopsis: New England has won its last 2 outings by a combined score of 94-7, with Tom Brady throwing 9 TD passes, and faces a team fortunate to beat the Jets last week. The offense managed just 104 yards, but Miami had 3 defense and special teams TDs. The magic runs out here.

Patriots 30, Dolphins 17.

Panthers AT Saints

When: 3:05 p.m. Line: Saints by 131/2.

Synopsis: The Saints gun for the first 8-0 record in their history but face a team they've lost to 6 times in a row in New Orleans. However, things are different this year as the Saints win at home by an average of more than 2 TDs and Carolina needed a sloppy outing by Arizona last week to pull its upset. Although the Panthers have No. 1 pass defense, they're 24th vs. the run and the Saints can mix it up better than any NFL team.

Saints 33, Panthers 16.

Lions AT Seahawks

When: 3:05 p.m. Line: Seahawks by 10.

Synopsis: Struggling teams meet, as Detroit allowed the Rams to get their first victory in more than a year last week and Seattle has been blown out in its last 2 outings. Detroit QB Matthew Stafford gets his second start after returning from a knee injury and figures to have key WR Calvin Johnson back from a knee injury. RB Kevin Smith is expected to play despite a shoulder ailment.

Seahawks 24, Lions 12.

Titans AT 49ers

When: 3:15 p.m. Line: 49ers by 4.

Synopsis: A match featuring once highly touted QBs who make their second start this year after being reinstated from long benchings. Alex Smith tries to get the 49ers' sputtering offense on track as SF is in a 3-game slide. The task isn't easy because the Niners will be minus injured cornerback Nate Clements and offensive tackle Joe Staley. QB Vince Young is back for Tennessee and he'd be wise to again utilize RB Chris Johnson, who ran for 228 yards last week vs. Jacksonville. However, SF is No. 2 vs the run.

PICK OF WEEK (vs. point spread): 49ers 20, Titans 17.

Chargers AT Giants

When: 3:15 p.m. Line: Giants by 5.

Synopsis: NY tries to end a 3-game slide in which QB Eli Manning and the defense have been poor as the Giants have been outscored 112-61. San Diego still hasn't beaten a team with a winning record, and its ground game is the NFL's second-worst.

Giants 28, Chargers 20.

Cowboys AT Eagles

When: 7:30 p.m. Line: Eagles by 3.

Synopsis: The lead in the NFC East is on the line as teams that have gotten back on track after a few blips collide. Philly is coming off a dominating outing vs. the Giants and is bolstered even more with the expected return of RB Brian Westbrook. He missed that one because of a concussion. The Cowboys' offense ranks No. 2 in the NFL in yards per game but meets a defense that is No. 8 in points allowed.

Eagles 27, Cowboys 20.

Steelers AT Broncos

When: 7:40 p.m. Monday. Line: Steelers by 3.

Synopsis: Denver comes off its first loss, at Baltimore, and faces a club that has won 4 in a row and is rested. Pittsburgh' defensive line is beat up, which would be a bad sign vs. most Denver attacks, but this year's Broncos offense is nothing special. But the defense is - No. 1 overall.

Broncos 20, Steelers 17.

Last week: 9-4. Season: 77-39.

Vs. point spread: Last week: 10-3. Season: 63-52-1.

Pick of the week (to win): Right. Season: 8-0.

Pick of the week (vs. point spread): Last week: Right. Season: 5-3.
